Nigel Mansell leads at the start of the 1985 Australian Grand Prix.

The race was won by his team mate Keke Rosberg, who was starting his last race for Williams.

This was the first world championship F1 race held in Australia.

  1. In the 1985 AGP, Keke Rosberg was actually one of only two drivers who had driven in the non-championship (and non-F1) AGP at Melbourne’s Calder Park circuit in November 1984. The other being Niki Lauda.

    Rosberg finished second in the 1984 AGP to Roberto Moreno. Andrea de Cesaris finished 3rd. All 3, plus Lauda, drove a Formula Mondial (Formula Pacific) Ralt RT4 powered by a 1.6 litre Ford BDA 4cyl engine.

    1. The 1985 AGP was held in on a street circuit in Adelaide …… not in Albert Park.
