I came across an excellent picture on another blog which shows every Formula 1 car from 1950 to 2004 side-by-side. Here’s a sample of it:

Thats awesome, shame the cars couldn’t be lined up by team to see the evolution of each car

That is the most wonderful thing I’ve ever seen. Right up my alley. Now if only I could sneak that onto the huge A1 printer at work…
I’m a fan of the newer era of cars, from 1990 onwards, and I always find the lesser teams have cooler looking cars and liveries.
The ’91 Jordan is a classic an looks like it means business, the ’92 Brabham has a rare F1 colour… pink. The ’94 and ’95 Pacifics are cool, along with the Simteks.
I love Minardi’s 2000 livery though.

Just noticed they have the 2001 Toyota car… a test car that never raced, yet they don’t have the 1997 Lola, which at least made it to a race weekend.

IMO, F1 cars looked the best late 50s to mid 60s

from 1970 to the mid-80’s, absolutely wretched.

Jordan 1991

I also love the classic malboro McLaren livery.

Nice to see the old teams
I see Brabham now sueing the new Brabham team for using its name. So pleased, i hope we don’t get fake lotus and brabham in f1

Thanks Shaun
Looking at this years cars all together like that i say the Mclaren is by far the best looking, in profile at least.

HAHA I just noticed the car that has ABBA on it!!

If I remember right the driver (Slim Borgudd [might have spelt that wrong]) was sponsored by ABBA while he drove for ATS, TommyB.

Borgudd was ABBA’s drummer, I think.

Someone`s done an impressive amount of work.
It’s impossible for me to pick just one favourite car out of them, though.

I wish i had remembered this pic was on my hard drive. I’ve had it for a while now. I could have uploaded it long ago.
I had it as a wallpaper for a while too.
If i was still a teenager it would make an ideal large poster for the bedroom wall.

The Times used to do posters like that each year you could send off for – I distinctly remember having the one for 1991 and learning all the drivers’ names – Eric van de Poele, Julian Bailey…

11th June 2009, 22:26
Now Keith,
You should do a poll in connection with the picture to see which of those cars is the best looking
scunnyman
11th June 2009, 23:03
my vote would be for the 1992 Ferrari F92A
very sleek smooth curves
and i never have liked the high noses on an F1 car.

Over 500 options in a vote? Don’t think it would give much information, if any. :D

That is fantastic !
There’s plenty of great looking cars on there, still got a soft spot for the 1992 Williams FW14B, the 1961 Ferrari 156 would have to get my vote though.

I love how it shows the major evolution between 67 and 77 and how little has changed in the last 10 years.

most of the good looking cars in F1 seem to be dogs.
Just look at this years Mclaren. And a lot of people said the Williams was the best looking 2009 car but they are not doing as well as people thought they might be doing better than they are.

wow… that brings back memories… I used to draw cars in profile like that when i was a young boy… I remember drawing Emerson_Fittipaldi’s McLaren M23 when I was in 8th grade. I found some of those drawing a few years ago i an old trunk.
Now if I could just find the book covers I made by cutting out pictures from road and tracks of that era….

tough to pick out a favorite, so i’ll just ramble:
i love the 50’s and 60’s cars. they really were proper race cars.
1954 merc – those blasphemous fenders! what next, a roof?!
1964 ferrari 1512 – a non-red ferrari? was it a privateer entry?
1968 – the first wings and prominent sponsorship. this is where it all went wrong.

Hi there mates, thanks for the plug and glad to see this monster being sent around – I think every one of us needs to blow this up in high res, frame it and hang it on our walls.
Im looking into exactly that, right now.
Try and stop by Racing Otaku from time to time – I tend to post all sorts of things motorsport related but love F1 more than all others.
Cheers,

The ’66 Lotus 43, always has and always will be my favorite.
The ’97-’01 Jordan’s had character. Also like the ’71 Lotus 56B and the ’68 McLaren M7.

12th June 2009, 8:48
The ’73 Lotus 72 for me..mmmmmmmm perfect

Although the 1968 Honda 302 likes fantastic. I just love the way the exhaust ‘pipes’ sweep around the rear of the car.

having said all that, Jordan’s ’91 191 was a lovely car, the image on this wall chart doesnt do it any justice.

So many to choose from, I am biased towards the cars from when I started following F1 in 1991 and the drivers and teams I supported. So I would have to say the Williams FW14B, Williams FW18, McLaren MP4-20 and this years McLaren MP4-24 even though it is slow. I also liked the Williams FW26 ‘walrus nose’ although a lot of people seemed to think it was ugly.

The Williams FW18 does it for me :)
Noticed that the 1996 Forti 02 is incorrect

Seem to be some missing.
Anyway it’s nice to have a look. Browsing down the 1971 Lotus 56B caught me eye.
Looks better in it’s original colours that was made for the 1968 Indy 500.
Gas Turbine power F1 car. Shame it couldn’t be developed a bit more.

The 1986 Williams is nice, and I’m not sure why but I quite like the 1995 Sauber,
Looking at the older cars really makes this years lot look like dogs. :(

I remember getting a similar poster from Autosport showing the cars that took Goodyear’s first 500 wins. Because every win was represented you could see which teams had winning streaks.

I have observed that sensible real estate agents all around you are getting set to FSBO Advertising. They are recognizing that it’s more than just placing a poster in the front yard. It’s really regarding building human relationships with these suppliers who at some point will become consumers. So, after you give your time and energy to helping these dealers go it alone – the “Law regarding Reciprocity” kicks in. Great blog post.
